A man who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She explained his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in July 2025.
The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor stated materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson alerted the police about his concerns.
She stated the defendant went on to play the "sweet game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she continued.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.
She explained Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
