Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
A senior official stated the attack made him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
